PHP
c_log.php | Standardized logging of processes for your PHP web scripts. |
PushToRemote.php | Publish folder to a web server using FTP. Assumes you have a nice clean local copy of your web site, you’ve made a lot of changes, and you want to get your external web server to match. This routine uses FTP to make the push, makes a local backup (tarball) of the destination site, adjusts for time difference between your local machine and your web server, allows you to specify which folders and/or files to skip, and sets up standardized logging of processes for your PHP web scripts. |
RandomQuote.php RandomQuoteData.txt |
Print a random quote from a formatted list. |

Offsite Strategy
When I talk about having an “offsite strategy” meeting, I’m looking to get out of the office and have some good, “strategic” conversation over a cup of coffee or a beer. Back when I worked for a software development company, we did our best design work at a hot dog stand in Des Plaines, IL; since then, I’ve always found it more fun to conduct some “bidness” in the proper atmosphere.
For myself, this site serves a practical purpose; I want to be able to quickly identify a short list of candidate spots to get together, based on your location and mine. I also wanted an excuse to get some hands on with some interesting web technology; I’ve wanted to build a Google Maps mash-up for some time, and I’ve been seeing a lot of stuff about jQuery on Twitter. The Calendar is just an embed of my public Google calendar – again, just experimenting with the technology.
Concepts and Technology: CSS, domain name process and tactics, Eclipse, Google Maps API, javascript, jQuery, web development SDLC, 3rd-party web hosting

totentanz
I’ve noticed that my posts on cazh1.com are less observations and more essays. Blogging has morphed beyond it’s “personal diary” origins – and cazh1 has become a long-format, personal publishing platform that is still evolving. But as I continue to troll the news feeds and check out what other folks are doing, I’ve repeatedly run into tumblr – almost a genre of it’s own, with a fast growing network of short-form prose, quick observations, and a fascinating variety of photo / illustration blogs. Somewhere between essays on WordPress essays and shout-outs on Twitter; I’ll use Google+ or LinkedIn for sharing other people’s [long and short] content. So where do I stash my quick thoughts?
This short format actually comes in handy for something that has nagged at me for some time; on a number of occasions, I’ve made relatively interesting technical discoveries as I hack and experiment, keeping my hands on and in the code as much as I can fit in. Interesting, not earth shattering, but definitely the kind of detailed solutions to particular problems that have turned Google into a handy tech support tool. Items not meaty enough to warrant an “essay” on cazh1 – but now I have a perfect place to make these entries and observations, and maybe one day help a fellow tech out of an annoying problem.
And so, I present totentanz; a short-form blog with some pics, some philosophy, and some helpful / searching tech notes on a variety of not-necessarily related (but relatively interesting) things.
Concepts and Technology: CSS, memento mori, photography, short-form blogging, tumblr, tumblr themes
